Chinese opera singers have won important competitions in Vienna and Cardiff during the previous year; this is something that will happen with increasing frequency, given that throughout China singers are being trained for classical Western opera with great success. Opera Studio Nederland also has a Chinese tenor in its ensemble this year: Tao Tong, who recently won a prize in the Turandot competition in Verona for his interpretation of the role of Calaf. You can get to know this remarkable singer on 31 May. Other members of the ensemble of Opera Studio Nederland will appear alongside Tao Tong in arias and ensembles by Puccini, Verdi, Offenbach and Tosti. Several Chinese arias will also feature on the programme.
