Israeli director and producer Sjaron Minailo's one ambition is to make the operatic world accessible to all who love music and theatre. In 2007 this resulted in the ‘MTV opera' Khadish / Erwartung, a combined opera performance, video clip and pop concert with a prominent role for soprano Roswitha Bergmann. Now we have Elektra, based on the libretto that Hugo von Hofmannstahl wrote for Richard Strauss' opera of the same name in 1909. Roswitha Bergmann once again takes the title role, this time as the Greek princess Elektra whose one desire is for revenge; her father Agamemnon was murdered at her mother's instigation and a blind lust for retribution holds Elektra fast in its grip. The music is by Joachim Brackx, a rising star in the Flemish music world; it is here performed by three members of the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag and it propels Elektra forwards to her inevitable fate.
