Operadagen Rotterdam 2017 launches on March 30 from 4.30 p.m. in the Nieuwe Luxor Theater. The full programme is unveiled and ticket sales start for all performances during this festive blast-off. Due to a grand interest, it's no longer possible to sign up for the kick-off.
We present the entire programme with over a hundred performances as ticket sales start at the official launch event for Operadagen Rotterdam 2017. You can also go for a theatrical walk along dazzling previews of performances that are featured at the festival. The line-up for this event includes the rising star soprano Nora Fischer as well as Domestica Rotterdam. Listen to the music featured in Freddie, a ritual happening around the persona Freddie Mercury. Throughout the evening you can sample performances around the concept of Departures, the first instalment of the four-year festival theme Lost & Found. The grand finale is a preview of Liebesleid, a fitness opera for sportspeople and singers.
For the 12th consecutive time Rotterdam is the undisputed European centre of current opera and music theatre. The festival takes place from 12 through 21 May. It features renowned groups from around the world as well as new works by up-and-coming talent. The performances take place in all nooks and crannies of the city in major cultural venues as well as on town squares, in living rooms, on top of shops, and even in a fitness centre.
Familiar favourites will return including First Night at the Opera (the festive opening night in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg) and the Paradijskerk concert. Arlon Luijten created the Parsifal trilogy in the past three years. He carries on another festival tradition in 2017: the developing city opera. This year it goes by the name of Ring of Resilience and you are cordially invited to brainstorm about its gestation.
We are adding several special programmes in 2017, including the Opera bicycle tour, an adventurous route that takes in various mini performances in Rotterdam-Zuid. Another fresh feature is the GALA!: a festive night when music theatre makers from all over the world congregate as various extraordinary artists are put in the spotlight. This year's line-up includes the Belgian band Dez Mona as well as soprano Nora Fischer.
You can access the full programme on our website from 30 March – the day when the online ticket sales start. Do you want updates on the latest developments? Click 'going' on the event's Facebook page.
