Operadagen Rotterdam is a three-day corona-proof festival; compact but with the impact of a 10-day edition
Expect opera walks along the River Rotte and through inner city gardens, open air performances in soon-to-be-demolished streets and in city squares, and surprising dates in Theater Rotterdam (Schouwburg). Large performances on a small scale, small performances in a large hall. All performances at Operadagen Rotterdam 2020 can be visited safely, in compliance with government protocols and the measures that apply in Rotterdam.
Artistic director Guy Coolen:
“Operadagen Rotterdam is famous for its amazing programming, often in unique locations. That is certainly true of this edition, which may take place on a smaller scale but is equally special. It provides the full spectrum of what we have to offer. Upcoming talent, international top quality, and Rotterdam as a backdrop and stage. This corona-proof edition of the festival also demonstrates the resilience of the cultural world. We champion our makers by giving them the stage they deserve. And we are strongly convinced that it is vital to experience culture live.”
22 contemporary, innovative, and trailblazing opera and music theatre productions can be seen and heard in theatres and outside in the open air from 25 through 27 September 2020. Theater Rotterdam (Schouwburg) is the point of departure.
