Monteverdi's first opera L'Orfeo premiered in 1607. Cappella Mediterranea and the Namur Chamber Choir led by Argentine star conductor García Alarcón show that the opera is as topical as ever after 400 years. The narrative, which still fires the imagination, tells us about Orpheus who cannot resist the temptation to look at his beloved Euridyce, causing her to disappear into the underworld forever. Cappella Mediterranea was at Operadagen Rotterdam 2016 with the applauded production Amore Siciliano.
