Uwe Leipe Mastdramnis was written for the mezzo-soprano Gerrie de Vries and a seven-piece ensemble composed of members of Nieuw Amsterdams Peil. The performance traces the route of a woman's soul as it transits from life into death. She transforms slowly but surely from a very old lady into the radiant diva she may have been once. The words that she utters are in a fictitious language that solely focuses on sound and expression. Nieuw Amsterdams Peil produces sparkling notes to create astounding contrasts and an unusual degree of theatrical tension.
